Transgender Athletes to be Banned in Some Sports

A proposed bill in Alabama will ban transgender athletes from several sports. It will force the athletes to compete under the gender assigned during birth. Alabama is the latest state to push for the ban.

Representative Chris Pringle sponsored the bill known as the Gender is Real Legislative Act or GIRL Act. The proposal calls for athletes in K-12 public schools to compete in sports based on the gender indicated on their birth certificates. Pringle is confident it will pass.

Pringle told online gambling news outlets that there is adequate support in the chamber from his colleagues. Many people want to co-sponsor the bill. As a result, he thinks the law will not have any trouble passing.

Pringle doesn’t want to ban transgender athletes from competing. Instead, they need to compete under the gender they had during birth. Also, he wants to protect young ladies who trained hard to participate as a female. In his opinion, boys are faster and stronger. He wants to level the playing field for everyone.

However, LGBTQ groups want to protect young student-athletes from discriminations. According to them, there’s no proof that transgender students can dominate in athletics. Also, they claimed that transgender children would miss vital aspects of school life because of the bill.

Alabama is not the only state considering transgender laws. Other states include Washington, Georgia, Missouri, Ohio, Tennessee, and Idaho. Pringle told sports betting odds sites that there are already lawsuits filed by female athletes who have been denied titles by transgender individuals.

At present, several states limit trans athletes from playing some sporting events. They are Indiana, Louisiana, Arkansas, Kentucky, New Mexico, Texas, and Nebraska. Advocates of trans students said that the Alabama bill is an attack on one of the most vulnerable groups today.
