Now, the good news is coming from England, as the Premier League, for many the best football league in the entire planet, has confirmed its return date for June 17th, and not only that, but after weeks of testing players in each team, finally, last week all Covid-19 tests that were performed came back negative.
The good news just keeps coming for sports fans in general, who are anxiously waiting for the return of their favorite leagues, but specially for soccer fans, as soccer has been the one leading the way to the fields back again.
The new rules to follow for the Premier League to be able to restart are simple and are what we have already been seeing in other leagues that have restarted, such as the German Bundesliga, no public allowed, social distancing as much as possible, individual traveling, water bottles and masks, safety protocols for media interviews and so on. These procedures are the one being applied in different leagues already, it’s what’s going to happen in the Premier League as well and is what should happen as well in American sports, at least for this year.
Premier League’s return updates and schedule
The EPL will return on Wednesday, June 17th with two pending games, Manchester City vs Arsenal, quite an expected match, and Aston Villa vs Sheffield United. Once these two matches are played, all teams will reach 29 games and then matchday 30 will take place starting next Friday, June 19th. Games will be played at all different times during the day, and one of the best news for fans is that for the first time ever, some of them will be broadcasted openly.

Remember, 29 games have already been played by most teams so far this season and the big winner so far is Liverpool, with 82 total points, 25 more than second place, Manchester City. Jurgen Klopp’s team has only dropped points in 2 of their 29 games so far, 1 loss and 1 tie, but all other 27 games have been wins, and everyone expects them to become champions for first time in Premier League history.
Manchester City has 57 points with one less game played, Leicester City has 53, Chelsea 48, Manchester United 45, Tottenham is way down in 8th place with 41 points and Arsenal are even lower in the table, in 9th place, with just 40 points so far.
Leicester City’s Jaime Vardy leads the league in scoring, with 19 goals so far, followed by Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, with 17, and Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, with 16 each.
