NFL Week 9 By the Numbers
Week 9 in the NFL Had some Surprises
The Pittsburgh Steelers managed to stay unbeaten in NFL Week 9 action. They were fighting off the pesky Dallas Cowboys who were down to their fourth quarterback, Garrett Gilbert.
The Cowboys led at the half 13-9, but the Steelers are 8-0 for a reason. Even when they don’t play well, they still play well enough to get a victory. It’s the first time in franchise history Pittsburgh is 8-0.
The victory also helped one bettor cash in on a massive payday. Here’s a look at NFL Week 9 by the numbers.

One bettor laid down $4,000 on a seven-team moneyline parlay that was given 110-1 odds. The parlay included two huge underdogs – Maryland and Liberty.
The Terrapins were a four-touchdown dog to Penn State but beat the Nittany Lions handily while Liberty upset Virginia Tech as a 17-point underdog. The bettor chose four other college favorites – Oklahoma, Ohio State, Appalachian State, and Iowa State – which all were victorious.
The final leg of the parlay was the Cowboys and Steelers. Pittsburgh closed as a 14-point favorite but struggled through the first half. In the end, Pittsburgh safety Minkah Fitzpatrick knocked down a Gilbert pass in the end zone to preserve a Steelers victory and give the bettor a win.
It was a big win. To the tune of $483,643.40.

Just before kickoff of the Miami-Arizona game, a very large and well-known sportsbook took a $220,000 bet. The bettor wagered on the Cardinals to cover the six-point spread.
He was feeling good when the third quarter ended with Arizona up 31-24. He felt a lot worse after Miami scored ten fourth-quarter points to win 34-31.
Home vs. Away
Coming into the 2020 NFL season there were questions about how the lack of fans in stadiums may affect games. The coronavirus, of course, has limited the number of fans in certain stadiums. Some games are played in front of zero fans.
So, how has that affected home teams? Well, home favorites are 47-29-1 straight up so far this season. The interesting thing is the home favorites record against the spread. At 32-45 ATS, it appears that the lack of fans may be helping road teams keep games close preventing home favorites from covering.

Dogs Win in NFL Week 9
It’s not often the New Orleans Saints are an underdog, but that is exactly the position they were in last week. Drew Brees and company were a 3.5-point dog at Tampa Bay in what was supposed to be a battle of two future Hall of Fame quarterbacks.
Someone forgot to tell Tom Brady that. Brees outplayed Brady who threw three interceptions as New Orleans won 38-3. One lucky bettor plunked down $500,000 on the Saints on the moneyline and won $775,000.
The Bills were a 3-point home underdog to Seattle. Buffalo QB Josh Allen went off and the Bills recorded a 44-34 victory. Miami and the New York Giants were also dogs that won. The Dolphins were a 6-point underdog at Arizona and won 34-31. The Giants were a 3-point dog at Washington and won 23-20.
