NFL owners have approved the proposal to allow players to wear No. 0

In a recent vote, the NFL has approved a proposal submitted by the Philadelphia Eagles that allows all players except for offensive and defensive linemen to wear the No. 0 jersey. 

Additionally, kickers and punters can now use any jersey numeral between 0-49 and 90-99, this is a significant change in the NFL world.

Atlanta Falcons CEO Rich McKay, chairman of the NFL’s competition committee, explained that the change was made with minimal opposition. 

Given the challenges of managing a 16-member practice squad in addition to the 53-man roster, the new policy provides more flexibility with jersey numbers.

According to McKay, “Numbers are more problematic than they’ve ever been, so this one had very little pushback.”

The news was met with excitement by Jacksonville Jaguars receiver Calvin Ridley, who announced his plans to wear the No. 0 jersey in a tweet. 

This change provides players with more options and could result in some unique jersey combinations on the field.

In the upcoming season, running backs and fullbacks will also wear the caps during in-season contact practices. This expansion of Guardian Caps should help reduce the risk of head injuries and improve player safety on the field.
