Louisiana Sports Bettors Need to Wait Until 2022

Although most parishes supported legal sports betting, Louisiana sports bettors will have to wait until 2022 to wager on sports. 55 out of 64 parishes voted in favor of legal sports betting. Thus, lawmakers will tackle the tax rates and other rules during this spring’s session.

The Louisiana Gaming Control Board will set a regulatory framework for players, sports betting software suppliers, and operators. According to its chairman Mike Noel, they expect the rules to be like fantasy sports wagering rules.

The State Police’s gaming enforcement division will accept applications from various fantasy sports operators after February 20. The gaming board also decided that fantasy sports revenue would have an eight percent tax. Proceeds of the tax will fund early childhood education.
