Sports betting is popular, and profitable. No one will ever argue against that. Not even Walt Disney, who, according to the latest gambling news coverage, is also interested in getting into the sports betting business. So, seeing that Disney can be a bookie is saying something. According to Chief Executive Bob Chapek, Disney wants to be aggressive in expanding their presence in sports betting.
The company will be forging and creating partnerships through licensing and other means with gambling operators. This will be coursed through ESPN, the sports news branch of Disney. This is not new to ESPN. The sports news company has already been working with operators for content where they show point spreads and lines during games. Even ABC, another Disney company, does the same with its sports shows.
Disney and Sports Betting
Many in the pay per head bookie industry are enjoying the growth of the sports betting market over the years. If we look at sports betting data, for instance, we see high year-on-year growth. This is in terms of betting handle and revenue in various betting markets across the world.
And while it is very easy to create your own sportsbook through a bookie pay per head company, Disney is not there yet. There is no confirmation on whether people will eventually be able to bet directly in Disney through ESPN. For now, they, along with their partners, are interested in sports betting. Given how gambling can be a potential issue for the company and its family-friendly reputation, they may be starting out small. It would be possible to see them partnering with operators in offering betting information. They could eventually cash in on the many potential options that online sportsbooks are offering and making money from.
