Galaxy Entertainment Group Withdraws from Osaka IR, Eyes Another Japan IR
Japan’s planned Integrated Resorts, or IR’s, are a much-sought after investment for casino operators worldwide. Much of what we see in casino news on Japan centers on the planned IRs that Japan will develop in different prefectures. International gaming companies can partner with prefectures to build IRs. Galaxy Entertainment Group is one firm that is interested in investing in a Japan IR.
In the recent years, Galaxy has interest in an Osaka IR. They even have a Request for Proposal in place. However, recent announcements that MGM resorts and local partner Orix are the only firms left in the race is now making them withdraw their request.
Japan IR: Where will Galaxy Go?
Of course, Galaxy appreciates the opportunity they have to bid for the Osaka IR plan. But after considering the latest developments, Galaxy will be refocusing their efforts elsewhere. They are looking to other areas in Japan, Yokohama, among others.
Galaxy reiterates their commitment to helping Japan reach its tourism and economic goals through the development of IRS in the country. And through cooperation with local firms and the government, they can turn the potential into reality. But wherever Galaxy will set their sights, will be challenging. A lot of gambling reviews feature big names such as MGM, Genting Singapore, and more. These firms, along with other multinational gaming companies, will be vying for the sport in Yokohama.
Osaka’s group states that MGM is the only accepted bid in their proposed resort casino. From 6 companies, MGM is the only one standing. One of the strengths of MGM is that they want to go for a 2025 casino opening. This will be perfectly times with the World Expo in Osaka. The event alone will bring in millions in tourism, but having a resort casino in the prefecture would easily increase their profit. Not only that, but the boost in the local economy will be most welcome as well- especially for the employment sector.
